The Wonderful Georgian Manor House with French interiors, set in a and parkland golf course, forms a beautiful mix of Georgian and regency styles. The original building underwent refurbishment as a French chateau, complete with a dining room containing wood paneling from the Chateau de Bercy. French artists, who also contributed to the palace at Versailles and founded the Rococo movement, originally created these interiors. Experts have since described the interiors as ‘probably the best French interior in England.’
Flemish craftsmen carved a wooden Jacobean entrance, adorned with grotesques. This entrance leads to a grand, cantilevered staircase. On the ground floor, you’ll find the opulent grand dining room with infinity mirrors, a pillared hallway, a reception room, and a bar. Additionally, there are two drawing rooms, one of which has an Oval shape and exquisite French murals.
Furthermore, there is a brick arched cellar, a temple folly, rooftop views, ornate fireplaces, a billiard room with transitional rococo door and locks, original Dutch murals, and acres of parkland, now home to a golf course.
Napoleon lll died at the house on 9th January 1873.
